Final

The final for the poster.

The 2 images I used to explain the passage from the song. A family and friends with laughter and happiness. I put the 2 images onto the 2 sides of the wings. A very simple way i did is just move the images onto the wings and add feather effects to smoothen the edges, and then i alter the size to fit in the wings and used the eraser tool to erase any exceeding part out of the wings. And then I lowered the opacity to make it blur and fading.

A passage from the song explains a pair of wings disappearing. So i've used a wings of an angel and put it at the back of the women as if she wants to fly away. I used the Magic wand tool to cut out the wings from a black background. To give it's effect of a blurry and disappearing wings, i used the feather tool to smoothen the edges. After that i used the burn tool to darken some edges to give a special effects, and then i lowered down the opacity to make it as if its seen through.

The subject that i used. A back body view of a women with a sad face. Ive took out the colors as i didnt want any colors that shows happiness and life. Everything is supposed to be sad. I've added portion of body below her hips with the stamp tool.

The main idea from the passage, the "Cloud" which is "Awan". A sad sight to see a dark cloud. As if it is going to rain. Depicting tears where the sky is crying. Ive put some grainy effects on it and make the color darker. The effects came out just like a picture from a very old photo.

Background

This is the background for the poster of a sun setting on the horizon. A altered the color of the sea to a warmer and soothing color.

The song chosen

The song ive chosen is a malay song sang by Ning Baizura, "Awan yang terpilu". The song tells about the journey of her as a singer. How she struggled through family, instinct and fame. A very touching song and her music video can bring tears to you. when i hear this song, i think of my family and why am i here in this world. What have i done i this world that serves a purpose and have a done enough to fulfill my parents wishes ? All of these constantly playing in my mind and yet i cant find the right answers, is like drifting on an open sea looking at the moving clouds. No where to go, but the only images i can see are from the cloud above. That's what the song brings to me.

Short Bio

My name is Phoon Wai Kit from Subang Jaya. FCM foundation Sem 2, loves drawing and music. About to show you the making of a poster based on a song passage, an assignment done in Computer Graphics 2, class of Mdm Rofeah.

The Making of....

First, i plot out the asian region of the map with the pen tool on top of the blue ocean that was created using rectangular tool as well as for the black background.

Then, i flood the edges of the land by changing the continents color to suit the ocean colors and then pen tool another "unflooded" area on the African, Saudi Arabian, central Asian, Russian, and the Australian region. The border of this poster i made it black as though the whole region is surrounded by darkness when these disasters occurred.

This is the magnifying glass i made that has the view of a bad television reception. I used the 3D revolve method to create the handle and the base of the magnifying glass. And then i use eclipse tool to create a round shape on top of the base and put on some grainy effect. And then i use pen tool to create the zig zag effect and alter its opacity and color for each one of them. After that, I used the pen tool again to create the reflection to make it looks shining on a glass. to enhance the effect, i used the outer glow effect.
It gives an idea on how unthinkable and unimaginable our country Malaysia and other regions would face when there phenomena occurs.

This is the key word for the poster and it should be big, bold and bright. Global warming, i made it as if it is burning in flames. First, i use the eclipse tool to create a long oval shape, and then bold the outlines and put 2 different hot and warm colors in it. Then I use the crystallize tool to make the whole edges pointy and then the twirl tool to twirl it. Telling the people that global warming means the earth is getting hotter and hotter as if she is being burnt.

Global warming means the increase speed of seasonal ice melting on the north and south pole thus the faster the rise in sea water level.

This is the Statement for this poster. " Where Will We be At ?' the question asked. Where will we be at when these kinda disaster happen out of the hands of humans itself ? Where will our country be ? under the sea ? gone forever ?

My Sketch

This will roughly look like how my poster of global warming will be. I've decided to plot a map of the Asian region being slowly drowned by rising sea level cause of the melting of the ice caps on the north and south of the earth leaving Earth only a minimal amount of space for us and other living things.

As we all know, Malaysia is a tiny country on a peninsula almost surrounded by Seas. A serious rising sea level will definitively drown our country and others around us. Then i put a magnifying glass on top on Malaysia as if it is looking for it but found nothing.

A very important notice and warning to all that our entire nation could be wiped out if actions are not taken. Not now but will be for our Sons $ daughters or even our grandchildren.

Statement

The statement will be " Where will we be at?" . It gives a moment for us to stop and think, what will happen to us once the ice caps and glaciers start melting faster than it should be.

Where will us be at ? where will us be placed, or live or even survive ? Malaysia is a peninsula and being one of the lowest to sea level. Melting of the ice faster increases the sea water level even higher and when it becomes to quickly, it will definitely sink or drown Malaysia and the other islands around it. not only us, but the large percentage of Earth's land will sink and be under water due to humans' own misdeed.

GLOBAL WARMING - Assignment 3

Our CG assignment 3 require us to Illustrate or to create a poster on the Global Warming Awareness.

Global Warming as it is easy to understand, means the rising temperature of the earth's atmosphere and ocean. The question on Global Warming has been raised since the mid 20th century and the problem are still in continuation. The major part that causes global warming is the change in the Green House Effect that keeps the earth in its temperature that supports lives. The increase of green house gases due to heavy industrial activities leads to trapping of heat on earth thus affect lives as well as the natural effects of earth.

As we know, Earth consist of 75% water ( salt/fresh water) and 10% of ice caps and glaciers leaving only 15% of land for humans and other living animals to live. The increase in temperature on earth melts the ice faster than its suppose to melt seasonally thus, increase in sea water level and decrease in habitant land. Imagine if the ice on north, and the ice on south( that is approximately 2.3km deep down) melts faster that it should be, the masses of earth land would sink and leave almost no space for inhabitants or worst, humans.

People take this issue lightly and thinking that global warming was exaggerated and worst, a hoax. Without setting the right mindset on the people, or the leaders of the world, the problem will become much worser and then there will be no time to regret. Alot of awareness campaign and studies have been done and works hard to get support from the people around the world.

This assignment that require us to create a poster is a good way to determine whether how much we know about global warming and how much we are trying to create an awareness or ways to stop it.

Final

This is the Final design of the festive calender.

The Making Of....

This section explains on the making of my mid-autumn festive calendar. The tools i used in illustrator and the idea of making the calendar.

I thought of using the mid-autumn festival is because personally i felt joyful and fun celebrating this festival. The gathering of families, beautiful lanterns creates a colorful atmosphere and also the magnificent sight of the full moon.

First of all, I had the background of the calendar established, that is the night view and used Mesh tools to fit in certain colors and contrast where the higher the sky the darker it gets and vice-versa.

And then i added in some brightly lit stars and some dim lighted stars to make a stary effect. I used the feather effect on the stars and then added some white outer glow to it so that is as though glowing.

Then the mountains were added on it. The mountains were drawn with the pen tool and added color to it. in order not to have the mountain to look plain and 2D, I used the mesh tool to add a wavy lighter toning across it to make a soft effect for the mountain.

The moon comes next, simple done it but i think it gives a glowing moon effect. First, a circle was drawn, then feather effect was added and then inner glow and outer glow was added and placed on the night view back ground, something like this came out.

Quite satisfied on the effect though, haha..

After that, the cloud was drawn using the twirl tool, just twirl and twirl till i get the marshmallow effect, sweet. Anyway, i lower the opacity of the cloud so that it look abit cloudy and foggy effect. Was put around the moon to make it look cloudy.

Then the darker clouds which a farther away from the mountains appeared darker, some larger, and some smaller were placed as a background to strenghten to mountain night effect.

The word written is Zhong Qiu means Mid-autumn in Chinese as it is a Chinese custom to celebrate the mid-autumn festival since centuries ago although now it is celebrated across the western continent. The Chinese word written as though as it is written with a Chinese brush pencil with the traditional black ink.

Here comes the Jed Rabbit, one of the symbol and legendary animal for the mid-autumn festival where it is said to be living on the moon making Chinese herb medicine. Simple shapes were drawn and then colors added. then i used the mesh tool to give a gradient effect on it.

The lanterns! This is what we see the most on mid-autumn festivals. Colorful from red, green, yellow hung up all over the streets. The whole lantern was drawn with the pen tool, color was added and stroke taken out. and then, i used the inner center glow to add another brighter glowing on it. then i used mesh tool to add some color effects on the sides. Lastly, a lantern glows, so i used the outer glow effect to finish it.

This is Chang'E, well.. .. anyway... XD is the Moon goddess where legends were told that she floated to the moon after accidentally swallowing her husband Hou yi's immortality pill and thus, living on the moon for the next eternity. Chang'E was drawn using pen tool traced from a figure of her i drew on paper. Then colors were added and layers were placed at the right angle.

A change in my Personal Statement.

I've decided to change my personal statement.

Mid-autumn Festival is the light of joy

The Ideation of the Design

When we talk about Mid-autumn Festivals, we will think about the the full moon, lanterns &moon cakes. The purpose of doing this month of festival on September is because it is celebrated by the majority of Chinese around the world and even in western countries. So it has become a rather universal celebration. Dating back to 3000 years ago, Mid-autumn festival has been celebrated. as a Chinese, it is important for me to show the specialty of this celebration.

Was inspired by how this celebration can form unity and happiness. People from all ages, from all walks of life together celebrating this prosperous festival is a good sign of bond between our culture.

The objects or symbols I'm gonna use is of course the most important part that relates to the festival itself, that is the Moon and also other relevant subjects such as the rabbit & the lady on the moon, clouds, starry night view as well as lanterns.

CG1 Assignment 2 - Festive Calender Design

The second assignment required us to illustrate a festive calender based on the months the festival falls in.

First of all, the personal statement for my festive calender is Mid-Autumn Moon Festival brings togetherness and happiness.

Creating my Personal symbol

My personal symbol has always been the alphabet P even my signature. So When was asked to design a personal symbol, the idea came up right away.

First, we are required to use Adobe illustrator to create simple shapes of a symbol that represents ourselves using the tools we learned from CG1 class. So this entire symbol was created using the Pen Tool and Polygon Tool.

The question mark was drawn first as it is more complicated and the stroke size were adjusted to fit. Then comes the green and then blue entirely from the Pen Tool. Colors were later put in according to my preference.

The green bar which has some kinda spiky effect crystallize tool, whereas the curly effect at the end of the blue bar were done with the Twirl tool. It represents an ocean wave as I said in my previous post. Calm and cooling breeze, that's what the color blue depicts.

The end comes the Buddhism symbol. It is done using many types of Rounded and Eclipse tool that forms the symbol. Color and stroke size were later add in.

Lastly, I used the stylize effect to add shadows to the symbol to make it look as though as it is standing out.

There came my personal symbol, simple but carries alot of meaning to it and everything is personally related to my life.

My Personal Symbol - Daze

This is my latest design of my Personal Symbol. It's called Daze completed fully with the use of tools from Adobe Illustrator. It looked simple but carries alot of meaning in it.

First, there is 4 symbols connected to be one single symbol. The alphabet P. The question mark ( ? ) , the number, 2 and the Buddhism symbol. I've always been very proud of my surname which is Phoon, So the P stands for my surname and also myself as a whole. Everything that surrounds the alphabet P is my personalities and beliefs.

Lets talk about the number 2. I've always believed that I have to personalities. 2 side of me. As a Pisces, split personalities are common. sometimes i can be moody, and then back to normal or jovial in seconds. It may seems weird but no harm to others. XD lol

The question mark is that i'm still in a daze, still thinking and asking myself. what is the purpose of my life right now. Am i doing the things for future, or am i just wasting my time. Alot of these thoughts gone through my mind as i'm still asking why.

The Buddhism symbol is obviously telling about my belief in God. Although i'm not fully educated on Buddhist religion. I strongly believe that God is always watching our every moves from above, He can make what we are now, He can too take it back.

The green bar that are separated with a spiky and a smoother one, tells that i have a rough and softer side. I can be as tough as I can be, but i'm also a strongly emotional guy.

The color RED shows my race as a Chinese. Mostly Chinese favor red in everything, it brings luck and wealth and happiness. Basically everything positive. :)

Blue is personally my own favourite color. I'm a person who is always calm and steady. The blue shows that of a calm and relaxing feeling like the sky or ocean. I've always use the color Blue to describe myself.

The color Green is the color of Health. I'm a particularly health conscious guy. The color green as i see it is a color of nature, the color of a healthy one self. I've gone through overweight and i know now how important the health is. While I was losing weight and maintaining a good appetite, greens are always in my sight. veges, fruits, and veges. haha.

Every color plays a part n my life and it's important to me. This is just about my Personal Symbol.

MY First Sketch of Personal Symbol :P

This is my first sketching of my personal symbol though it looked rough but yet the concept is still there. Well, of course it's not going to look exactly like this in the final project. I'll try to work on it a little more.

I've shown Dr.Khoo this sketch she said is ok but need to cut out the tiny tiny things in it. Cause it's only there to ''Sibuk'' haha.. overall no Bad comments on it. yay! XD yeah... gonna improve abit on it.

Oh ya.. i've noticed quite a few of my mates are using the concept of angelic wings or feathers. Hope nothing would clash or made it looked Boring though.

I'll keep this updated soon with new or more sketches or better done with Illustrator ^^
